not so red velvet

by

since valentine's day is this week, i decided it was a good time to make a red velvet cake. i mean, it is just a made-up holiday full of high hopes, boxed chocolates, and dinner reservations BUT it is also a really good excuse to eat cake.

my most recent baking ventures prior to this have gone somewhat awry. for instance, around christmas i decided i was going to bake something to give as gifts to extended family members. my pick was a beer bread recipe that i would make with a local nashville brew. cute right? i'm pretty sure it was the most awful bread that has ever been baked. luke compared the bread to pumice stones and clyde wouldn't even eat it. then, a few weeks ago i decided i would make cupcakes for the hell of it. chocolate avocado cupcakes to be exact. while they didn't turn out all that great, they were better than the christmas gift beer bread rocks.

so for this baking go round i decided to keep it simple. no adventurous recipes or healthy shortcuts, just plain ol unhealthy deliciousness. and it turned out great.

*if you are wondering why my red velvet cake doesn't look very "red"i just ran out of red food coloring. that's all.

                                                         happy valentine's day to you.
